Oct 27, 2017 Java for OS X is an Apple vetted Java environment, designed to be as highly integrated as possible within its own operating system. Java for OS X has been created to mix OS X's advanced technologies and Java's adaptability and omnipresence on almost all software platforms out there. Starting with Java 8 Update 25 (8u25), download and install Java 8 from java.com.A bug was fixed in 8u20 which had prevented the installation of prior releases of Java on Mac OS X 10.10. Run the file from terminal to extract it into a location, e.g. /jdk1.6/ and then create softlink from /usr/bin/java pointing to the location /jdk1.6/bin/java. Not sure if it's applicable for Mac OS though, but you can try. – user591593 Jul 22 '11 at 5:44.
Java for Mac includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java. This update uninstalls the Apple-provided the tool applet plug-in from all web browsers. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled 'Missing plug-in' to go download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.

- Jan 10, 2015 With Oracle's Java 8, there's been some confusion as to whether Java 8 runs on Mac OS X 10.7.5. This issue was lent additional urgency in the wake of Oracle's announcement that they will begin auto-updating Java 7 users to Java 8 starting in January 2015. The root of the confusion lies in the fact.
- Sep 15, 2019 Some of you were asking me to tell how I got Java 1.6 and Java 1.7 to work on PowerPC OS X 10.5, but I would rather tell you how to easily get it on your own PPC Mac.
